Non-equivocation in transparency logs

Non-equivocation is the guarantee that the log operator can't show one history to you and a different one to someone else.

Beyond tamper-evidence

An append-only log stops silent edits — but a malicious operator could still keep two divergent logs and show each victim a consistent one. Non-equivocation closes that: independent witnesses cosign each checkpoint, but only after verifying a consistency proof, so no honest witness will ever endorse a fork. Two conflicting signed checkpoints become portable, undeniable proof of misbehavior.

Gasless, permanent anchoring

Liceat cosigns checkpoints across independent witnesses and additionally anchors each checkpoint root into Bitcoin via OpenTimestamps — no wallet, no gas, only a hash on-chain. Even if the operator and every witness vanished, anyone holding a checkpoint could prove to Bitcoin's own timestamp that a given history existed.
